How to apply

Step one:

Read carefully the Notes of Guidance on the application form. If you need advice please call us.

Step two:

Complete the application form with as much information as possible. Please note that unless you are doing a DNA test and search the following information is helpful for a successful search:
The full name of the person you wish to find.
Their age or date of birth.
The name of at least one of their parents.
The last known whereabouts of the person being sought. Where the person is known to be overseas, the full last known address is helpful. Previous addresses are also helpful.
Phone if you need advice.
Where information is not known please write N/K. If you have additional information please write this in the box provided. It is often the case that snippets and stories aid a search. Names of friends, unusual hobbies, club and society memberships, nicknames etc.

Step three:

Read carefully the Data Protection statement at the bottom then, date and print-sign. (Note: We are unable to commence a search if this is not signed.)

Step four:

Fill in payment section for an immediate start to your search : Call us and we can take payments over the phone. We can email you a payment connection if that suits you better.
Add any additional information, (supply as a separate attachment) such as a copy of your own full birth certificate, photos and other supporting documents necessary such as any records you may already have.

NOTES OF GUIDANCE

  1. CONFIDENTIALITY. We will not disclose the whereabouts or other personal details of people we locate without their consent. This pledge has to be upheld. We may tell you they are safe and well. First contact is made by letter, visit or electronic means. We need an assurance that we must be free to reveal the enquirer’s identity and contact details, and the reason for the enquiry.
  1. PROCESS. Unless it is a DNA search the usual information required is: full names and precise date of birth (or age) and/or date of marriage of the person sought, together with the last known address or location. Where any details are not known, please insert ‘N/K’. Additional information should be given in the space provided. The form must be signed by the person making the enquiry that has the family relationship and must also be over 18 years of age.
    As far as possible, it is requested that enquirers enclose an image of their own full birth certificate.
  1. PAYMENT. We are able to accept payment in various currencies either by credit or debit card payment. We can take payments over the phone.
  1. PROCESS. The information will be reviewed and we will let you know if we are able to proceed or otherwise. Enquiries can take several weeks depending on the type of search and we can make no guarantee of success, but we will be in touch with you as soon as we find important and relevant information.

    Long Lost Families will hold your personal information in its legitimate interests of processing your application and retain it to ensure future protection of your privacy in the event of further requests.
    We may share this information with partners, agencies or individuals who assist us in our enquiries. We must be free to reveal the enquirer’s identity and contact details to the person sought. If there are contact details that you would prefer us not to share with the individual sought, these must be disclosed by you at the commencement of our involvement.
    You have a right to a copy of information we hold about you and in some circumstances to have it amended or deleted and to withdraw consent. For this and to raise any queries on how your information is handled please contact us through the website.
